Miniature Pinscher General Appearance:

While you may know this small pup as a Miniature Doberman Pinscher, the breeds are not related — although they do look similar! The Miniature Pinscher is a small, compact dog that stands between 10 to 12 inches tall and weighs between eight and 10 pounds.

Miniature Pinschers have short, smooth coats can be shades of red, black, chocolate, blue, and fawn. Their high-set ears stand erect from the base to tip, and they have muscular bodies with tails that are held high.

Miniature Pinscher Temperament:

The Miniature Pinscher is small, but mighty! This breed is outgoing and energetic, and they do well in fenced yards that give them room to run. Watch out, though — these pups are known escape artists, and some Miniature Pinscher owners recommend placing them in a kennel with a lid on it for them to safely roam.

Because this breed is known for their independence, you should train your Miniature Pinscher puppies early on with a gentle, firm, and consistent set of rules. Miniature Pinschers are great watchdogs, and they’re happy to alert you to strangers!

Miniature Pinscher Fun Fact:

The misnomer “Miniature Doberman Pinscher” occurred because the Doberman Pinscher was introduced to the US before the Miniature Pinscher. The American Kennel Club described the breed as “a Doberman in miniature,” and the misconception stuck!
